Honoring Our Veterans

This week we honor our veterans, the brave men and women who have served this country in our military. Thank you for your willingness to sacrifice everything to protect this country and her freedoms.
In recent years, reports surfaced of gross mismanagement at Veterans Affairs facilities across the country. Congress must work to ensure our veterans receive the proper care they deserve, and we will continue working to reform the VA system. If you or a loved one is currently experiencing trouble with the VA, please do not hesitate to reach out to one of our district offices for assistance.

Two weeks ago, President Obama vetoed the National Defense Authorization Act. The NDAA passed with overwhelming bipartisan support in both the House and the Senate and provides for a strong national defense. It also improves pay and benefits for our troops and their families, strengthens the nation’s cyber defenses, and includes much-needed reforms to modernize the Defense Department. This bill also prohibits the transfer of Guantanamo Bay detainees to U.S. soil.
As we celebrate Veterans Day, we should make sure our troops and veterans have what they need. So this week, the House again passed the NDAA with a veto-proof majority, and the Senate is expected to vote on it again this week. President Obama should sign this bill.
