Gowdy Reacts to Passage of Short-Term Continuing Resolution
March 1, 2011
Press Release
Today, Representative Trey Gowdy (SC-04) released the following statement regarding the passage of the short-term continuing resolution.
"The short-term continuing resolution passed today safeguards vital government programs and functions the American people require and at the same time demonstrates our unwavering commitment to fundamental fiscal reform. Current spending levels are simply unacceptable, and any attempt to oppose these common-sense cuts would be a disappointing display of partisan politics,” Representative Gowdy said.
Gowdy continued, “I urge the Senate to pass this measure, and quickly move on to consideration of H.R. 1. Our economic situation demands swift action, and we must meet our difficult challenges by listening to the directives of the American people – reduce the size of government and stop the reckless spending.
The short-term measure passed by the House today saves $4 billion over two weeks through $1.25 billion in program terminations and $2.76 billion in cuts to earmark slush funds.
